Our Story.... |
BARN GALLERIES was founded in 1991 with our first exhibition, ARTSPACE. Together, Bridget the writer and Lucy the artist, attracted over 6000 visitors every year to this annual arty extravaganza.
The distinctive rural setting of ancient barns and gardens gave visitors a love for the place - eating homemade cakes, stroking chickens and of course buying a wonderful works of art. Excellence was always our aim: we only worked with professional working creatives, we looked for excellence and energy : it’s as simple and as difficult as that. Over 21 years Barn Galleries hosted: ARTSPACE, Collect in the Country, handcrafted Indian textiles, Daler Rowney awards, retrospective for the renowned William Newland, opera nights, poetry readings, workshops, en plein air painting and The Free Range Poets have met monthly. Barn Galleries founded ARTSPACE INDIA in 2000 together with Bobbi and Mitu Mukerjee. With the assistance of The British Council, several ARTSPACE artists enjoyed cultural exchanges which continued until 2010. Barn Galleries curates visual arts events elsewhere. For many years we curated the Riverside Gallery at the Henley Festival. Here we introduced large scale sculpture for the lawns, poetry to the programme, ran workshops for children and instigated the free of charge open morning for everyone. We are proud of all the artists we have supported over the years, the clients we have encouraged and thankful for all the wonderful friends we have made. There are still a plethora of creative happenings in our lives so please do stay on touch. In May 2021 LUCY will be again curating The Sculpture Garden for the Cookham Festival, a biennial event, in the grounds of the John Lewis Partnership’s Odney Club, Cookham. www.thesculpturegarden.co.uk |
